Blu-U Light for Acne Treatment

Blu-U light is a type of light therapy that gently and safely kills
the acne bacteria (P. acnes) in the skin. Treatments are easy,
non-invasive, and relatively painless. Blu-U light often works when
medication, scrubs, peels, and topical products have failed.

How it works

Blu-U uses a high-intensity blue light that penetrates deeply enough
to kill bacteria, but does not affect the normal tissue. The blue
light uses no ultraviolet (UV) light or lasers. Pulses of light are
delivered through the surface of the skin, targeting the sebaceous
  glands where breakouts occur.

Treatment and recovery

Full face and neck treatments take approximately 15-30 minutes. Your
doctor will guide the blue light handpiece over the treatment area as
the light pulses safely through your skin. Most patients describe the
lights pulses as feeling similar to the snap of a rubber band against
the skin. A topical anesthetic may be used to reduce discomfort.

Immediately after the procedure, you may experience mild to moderate
redness and swelling, which will fade in as little as a few hours. You
may apply makeup directly after the procedure. There is no downtime
required, and you may return to your normal daily activities.

Patients may require 2 sessions a week for up to 10 weeks. After
initial treatment, maintenance sessions once a month are recommended
  to maintain optimum results.

Results

In a recent Blu-U clinical study, patients saw their acne improve by
81 percent. Most patients see improvement in their acne after two
weeks of treatment. Many often continue to see gradual improvement in
the months following treatment, but some may experience a plateau and
require additional sessions to maintain results.
