Sculptra

Sculptra Aesthetic is a type of facial injectable made from
poly-L-lactic acid, which stimulates collagen synthesis on the skin
and improves wrinkles and folds that appear with aging by replacing
lost collagen. The main ingredient is a biocompatible, biodegradable
synthetic material that has been used by physicians for decades.

Sculptra has been popular in Europe since 1999 and has been recently
introduced to the United States. It was initially used to correct
facial wasting in patients with HIV and has since been approved by the
FDA for the treatment of facial wrinkles.

How it works

Sculptra uses a synthetic Poly-L-lactic acid material that is common
in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. The compound helps
gradually increase the thickness of the skin.

Treatment and recovery

Sculptra treatments are performed by Dr Casal in our office using a
topical numbing cream or a local anesthetic. Dr Casal will identify
one or more injection points for each area to be treated. The
procedure lasts about 30 minutes and you can resume your normal daily
activities immediately afterward. You may be asked to apply and ice
pack to reduce swelling, and to massage the area to promote even
  distribution of the Sculptra compound.

Results

Sculptra offers improvement in the appearance of deep facial lines and
other facial wrinkles and improves the face globally . Results appear
gradually, and two or more sessions may be necessary to achieve the
full effect. Results may last up to two years, after which point the
  treatment may be repeated.
